Yukishiro Enishi is Kenshin's former brother-in-law by virtue of being Tomoe's brother. He hates Kenshin, bitterly, for Tomoe's death and has vowed to take revenge on him in the most painful of ways, by using Kaoru. He finds, though, that Kaoru perplexes him. She treats him decently in spite of being his captive, and in this moment Enishi is pondering how such a thing can be.
